Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

SolarCity designs and installs Electric Vehicle (EV) charging systems for homes and businesses.

Expert Design for Faster Charging

SolarCity has installed over 2,500 EV charging stations. Our Electric Vehicle Service team members are experts in optimizing charging stations based on your electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid model. We understand UL and SAE standards which will enable forward compatibility for many years to come.

Full Service EV Installations

We manage every detail of your EV charging station project, including permitting, planning for expected electric load, switching your utility rate structure and installing the charger itself. We will get your system up and running quickly, with minimal disruption to your business or home life.

SolarCity is the preferred charging station installer of Tesla Motors.

"SolarCity did a fantastic job installing my EV charging station. They were professional, worked hard, cleaned up after themselves and made sure I was happy before they left. I would love to work with them again to install a solar system to offset the new electrical load of my Roadster. I will definitely recommend SolarCity to others." Graham Orndorff, Aptos, CA

Carbon Free Without Compromise

If you chose to power your electric car with clean solar energy, we can help you with that too!

Becoming carbon free is quite a refreshing thought. Your carbon footprint comes primarily from two areas—your household electricity and the cars that you drive. By combining a solar system with an EV charging station, you can drive completely emission free.

Power Your Electric Car with Solar Energy
Solar Panels

Solar panels are typically installed on the roof and are made up of photovoltaic (PV) cells, which convert sunlight into direct current (DC) power.

Inverter

The DC power from the solar panels is sent to an inverter, where it is converted into alternating current (AC) power, or standard electrical current used to power your electric vehicle and your home.

Electrical Panel

AC power travels from the inverter to the electrical panel, often called a breaker box.

Utility Meter

The utility meter continually measures your electrical supply; when your solar system produces more power than you need, the meter literally spins backwards, accumulating credits with the utility company that will offset your next bill.

Electric Vehicle Charging Station

Plug into the charging station to power your electric car.

Electric Vehicle

Your EV is powered by clean solar electricity generated on your own home.

Utility Grid

Your home remains connected to the utility grid to supply you with electricity when you need more power than your system has produced, such as at night.
