SolarCity Finalizes Acquisition of Assets of Clean Fuel Connection Inc.’s SolSource Energy Business

Company to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure across its service area

FOSTER CITY and CULVER CITY, Calif., Sept. 17, 2009—SolarCity® today announced that it has finalized its acquisition of the SolSource Energy Business of Clean Fuel Connection Inc., a provider of renewable energy and electric vehicle charging infrastructure based in Los Angeles. SolarCity is expanding its EV charging installation operations as a number of major automobile manufacturers get set to introduce new electric vehicle product lines in 2010. SolarCity, perhaps best known as one of the nation’s largest providers of solar power to homes and businesses and the inventor of the SolarLease™, is also the primary installer of electric vehicle charging stations for Tesla Motors, maker of the all-electric Roadster and upcoming Model S sedan. Numerous Tesla owners use photovoltaic panels at home to enable partial or even full charging of their sports cars through solar power alone.

“When you combine solar power and electric vehicles, you’re enabling a carbon-free lifestyle,” said Lyndon Rive, SolarCity’s CEO. “We plan to grow our EV installation business to become America’s leading supplier of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.”

Jim Cahill, former co-owner of SolSource Energy, has joined SolarCity and now serves as the company’s regional operating director in Southern California. In his role at SolSource Energy and a prior role for Edison EV, an electric vehicle infrastructure arm of Southern California Edison, Cahill oversaw the installation of more than 2,000 charging stations for electric vehicles manufactured by Toyota, Nissan, Honda and General Motors, including the EV-1 made famous by the documentary film, “Who Killed the Electric Car?” SolSource Energy became the North American distributor of electric vehicle chargers for Toyota Tsusho in 2001, and SolarCity has assumed responsibility for this distribution contract as part of the acquisition.
